I suggested that every CB'r who uses an amplifier is like that, not that all CB'rs in general are bad. I've known some CB'rs that are great people who really do understand what they are doing, however in my part of town at least CB is worthless because nearly everyone out here runs 500 watts and sings into the mic jamming the frequency. We had a nice guy talking on CB the other day, then some dumbass breaks in and starts singing.... I wasn't assuming all, just a lot. Like those with amps.
@psheaven: You are making an assumption that everyone on the CB is an idiot and doesn't care about RFI. That is not the case. Everything on my station is clean, solid and has ferrites. When I set my station up I let my neighbors know to contact me if there were any interference issues. I had one RFI issue with a neighbor and I remedied it with ferrites on their cheap AM radios. Try not to be so high and mighty on your Ham pedestal. There are 11 meter operators who actually care!
Hearing people in "skip" (or "propagation"), and talking to them are definitely two different things. If you want to hear some good examples of "skip" check out my You Tube channel and you can see that you can go a lot further than 1,000 miles. I have a number of recordings talking to New Zealand, Australia, etc. from SF Bay Area (Northern California) operating on the regular CB frequencies. According to the FCC, talking (or "shooting") skip is not permitted but everyone does it anyway.
and also there is "skip".....picking up signals from "many miles" away. I am in massachusetts and can sometimes hear people from the southern USA....thats at least 1000 miles away
Just uploaded a film about a cb why you should never eyeball anyone
